How time flies…
Submitted by arianek on Sat, 08/11/2007 - 19:38 – No commentsWow, so I just realized that it was one year and three days ago that I had my thesis defense. Can you believe that??? Where has the time gone? This year has gone by soooo quickly. And so much has happened, it's just kind of hard to wrap my head around! I have to say, as much as I am a big proponent of going to university, I am still loving being out in the 'real' world. I seriously felt like my MA was some kind of purgatory, and it feels good getting myself established outside of that.
I have to attribute a lot of the goodness of post-school life to my sweet job. Have I even really told you all about my job? It all happened so quickly! I applied for it back in February, and started in March. My title is "Junior Client Manager", because I was hired to take care of website maintenance and newsletters and the like for our ongoing clients. But I've been learning a lot of HTML and CSS, and how to build sites in Drupal and Wordpress, and even a bit of PHP and crazy database stuff (scary!), and getting to take on more responsibility helping with that sort of stuff. I work with three other people, my two bosses and then our web developer (who's actually leaving in about a month *tear*), and they are all super smart and have tons of skillz, and I've been learning so much from them.
And, the recent excitement is that my bosses are mere days away from the deadline for the book they've been writing about women-run businesses. I'm so excited for them, and if you want to find out more about that, you should check out their blog, Boss Lady.
Not only are they super smart and cool, but they've been incredibly supportive with everything that's been going on with me health-wise over the last little while, which you can't even imagine how much of a difference that makes (or actually a few of you probably can!) when you're not feeling good!
I also have to give props to the guys over at Bryght, who host tons of Drupal and geekery related events, and contribute so much to the web community out here. I met these guys just over a year ago (June 2006) at Drupal Camp Seattle which I tagged along to, little did I know that it would make a huge impact on the trajectory of my life and career choices over the next year! And I have to say thanks, because they (in particular, Boris, Roland, and Kris) have been so great to me even though I was (and still am sort of) such a newb in this world! You guys rock!
Anyway, so yeah, just felt that I oughta commemorate this time with a slightly love-fest-y blog post. I never thought this would be what I'm doing, but I love it, and just wanted to say thanks to all the great people who have made it such a happy journey for me!
